Understanding Video Permissions

Overview

VALT Contains many options for restricting video access to the appropriate users. This article explains how video authorship works in the VALT system and how to ensure that your users can see the videos they need to see.

Authors

Each video in VALT is associated with an author. By default, the author will be whoever started the recording, although that value can be changed when starting a recording or editing a recording. When another user goes to view that recording, be it a live recording that is in progress or a previously recorded video, VALT will evaluate whether that user has permission to access recordings belonging to the author.

Video Permissions

The Permissions to view another author's recordings are set at two different levels:

Group Level

The primary way video access permissions are managed is changing the group video access settings for each group of users. In the Settings page in VALT, navigate to Users & Groups, then edit the group whose permissions you need to adjust. Then, scroll down to Video access and check the box next to any authors whose recordings should be visible to the Group you are editing. If the group should not have access to any recordings other than those personally authored, deselect all users.

User Level

If a specific user needs access in addition to their group-provided access, you can edit that individual user's video access. In the Settings page in VALT, navigate to Users & Groups, then edit the user whose permissions you need to adjust. Then, scroll down to Video access and check the box next to any additional authors whose recordings should be visible to the user you are editing.
