Wowza ULL Streaming License

What is Happening

On March 2nd of 2022, live streaming will cease to function on older versions of VALT set to the Ultra Low Latency Player (ULL) due to the expiration of the ULL streaming license. Affected systems are those running versions 5.2 and 5.3 and certain systems running earlier builds of 5.4.

To resume normal operation on affected systems, the ULL license needs to be updated to extend the expiration date. ULL support can be extended until 2023 for systems running 5.2 and can be extended until 2030 for systems running 5.3 and 5.4. The following license key is valid until 2023 and can be used in the Server.xml file in VALT 5.2.

The following key will extend ULL support until 2030 but is only compatible with VALT versions 5.3 and greater.

For systems under an active support agreement, we recommend updating to VALT version 5.5.X to permanently resolve this issue
You can see our version release notes Here
For systems not under an active support agreement, instructions below are provided to update the ULL license for each affected version.

Do I HAVE to update my VALT server?

It is highly recommended that you update your system to permanently resolve this issue. If you are under an active Support Agreement, please feel free to reach out to our support team and they will apply the appropriate fix, otherwise, instructions for a temporary solution are below.

Why is this coming up now?

The expiration of the ULL license on older versions of VALT has always been planned to occur on 03/02/2022, at the time your system was installed, this issue was likely multiple years away, and if your system has been kept up-to-date with our regular maintenance schedule, then it is unaffected.

What should I do about this?

It is recommended that you schedule a time to update your server at our bookings site https://ipivs.com/book. If you have further questions, give us a call at 262-746-9290 Option 2.

Temporary Fix

To apply the temporary fix for yourself, you will first need to SSH into your server.

Once you have SSH access to the server you can follow the steps listed below. Note that you should follow the instructions based on the version of VALT you are running.
