Overview
IVS makes use of Axis Communications, IP-based, cameras.
- Why Axis Communications?
- We standardize on Axis Communications cameras because they deliver exceptional reliability, performance, and long-term consistency. With a comprehensive 5-year hardware warranty, our clients benefit from added peace of mind and reduced lifecycle risk.
- We have been deploying Axis solutions for years across a wide range of environments, giving us deep, practical experience with their performance in real-world conditions. This long-standing track record allows us to confidently recommend solutions that are proven, stable, and effective.
- Compatibility with VALT
- Our VALT platform is fully compatible with Axis cameras. Within Axis’s extensive product catalogue, we carefully select and recommend models that meet specific performance criteria.
- One key requirement is support for external audio. This serves as an initial filter in our evaluation process, ensuring that the cameras we deploy align with the advanced capabilities and use cases supported by VALT.
- Why IP-based cameras? IP-based cameras provide a modern, flexible foundation for high-performance video systems:
-
- Precision Control: Direct API integration enables seamless control of PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras for responsive and accurate positioning.
- Optimized Streaming: Cameras deliver pre-encoded video and audio streams, enabling efficient bandwidth usage without compromising quality.
- Scalable Architecture: Native format compatibility reduces system overhead, allowing us to support up to 50 cameras per server while maintaining consistent performance.
Device Types
Fixed Cameras
Fixed cameras are cameras configured for a single viewing position. They do not support remote pan, tilt, or zoom control through VALT.

Pan-Tilt-Zoom Cameras
Pan-Tilt-Zoom cameras, commonly referred to as PTZ cameras, support remote pan, tilt, and zoom control through the VALT software.

Encoders
Encoders are devices used by VALT to capture an HDMI output signal and stream or record it alongside camera video streams. For example, an encoder can be used to capture the output from a vitals display monitor.

Technical Notes
Firmware
IVS utilizes the latest LTS firmware for the Axis devices.
⚠
IVS does not recommend updating the firmware without consulting an IVS technician.
Camera Configuration
For optimal performance, IVS configures a set of standard settings on each camera. Please use the link below to learn more about these settings.
