Trying to compare camera models??
Overview
IVS makes use of Axis Communications IP-based (aka "network") cameras.
- Why Axis Communications?
- We use Axis cameras exclusively because we have an excellent relationship with Axis as a vendor and their cameras are extremely reliable. When we have issues with cameras, RMAs are typically straightforward as well.
- Why IP-based cameras?
- Direct API control of the cameras over IP to adjust PTZ
- Ability to leverage pre-encoded video/audio streams at much more efficient bitrates
- Direct format support for video/audio from the cameras allowing us to avoid transcoding and support up to 50 cameras/server
Fixed Cameras
"Fixed cameras" is an industry term given to cameras that are set to a single viewing position and do not move.
Pan-Tilt-Zoom Cameras
A Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) camera is a camera that the user can remotely pan, tilt and zoom (control) through the VALT software.
