Overview

IVS makes use of Axis Communications IP-based (aka "network") cameras.

Why Axis Communications?
We use Axis cameras exclusively because we have an excellent relationship with Axis as a vendor and their cameras are extremely reliable. When we have issues with cameras, RMAs are typically straightforward as well.

Why IP-based cameras?

  • Direct API control of the cameras over IP to adjust PTZ
  • Ability to leverage pre-encoded video/audio streams at much more efficient bitrates
  • Direct format support for video/audio from the cameras allowing us to avoid transcoding and support up to 50 cameras/server
